Artists' Exchange

Artists' Exchange is pleased to present Creatures and Relics, a gallery show featuring the works of two up and coming artists, sculptor Christian Quijano and photographer Justin Lawrence Oliver. Artists' Exchange will open its gallery doors on Thursday, November 19, 2009 for an opening reception from 6 to 8 pm.

Christian E. Quijano, of Smithfield, is a young artist with autism. He has been experimenting with many arts media since he was very young, developing a passion for working with clay from the age of two. Irma Rodriguez, Quijano's mother, says, he can recreate in clay almost anything he sees with amazing details and in a very short period of time, at times in minutes. When he was six years old he made ten elephants, inspired by the friendly creatures he saw in Dumbo.

Quijano will be joined by photographer Justin Lawrence Oliver of Providence..

While his father was an avid travel photographer and had a darkroom in his basement, Oliver's interest in photography came in adulthood, springing from an interest specifically in documenting historically and culturally significant buildings in danger of demolition.
